MIKE BONHEIM BIOGRAPHY
Some creative leaders come up through theater. Mike Bonheim came up through systems — how attention works, how memory forms, how the brain decides what matters. A degree in Brain and Cognitive Sciences from the University of Rochester gave him something most creative directors don't have: a principled model of why some experiences have the intended impact, and exactly what separates them from those that don't.
That foundation became the basis for two decades of leading teams, designing experiences, and crafting passion to build the kind of work that earns a room's trust before a single word is spoken.
As founder of Barnburner Creative, Mike has operated at the intersection of strategic vision and hands-on execution, holding creative accountability for marquee programs at Oracle, Dell Technologies, Novartis, Merck, Eli Lilly, GE, Citi, JPMorgan Chase, The Home Depot, ESPN, BMW, and others. His format range is deliberately broad: live events, POAs, SKOs, trade shows, exhibits, pop-ups, stunts, OOH, digital interactive, video, animation, social, print, web... That breadth is his leadership methodology, and the reason he can get the job done - whatever the job is: you can't effectively direct specialists if you don't understand their world and speak their language. Mike has spent his career earning fluency across disciplines so he can connect with teams and connect teams to each other, rather than just managing from afar. He likes to say that he is 'as comfortable in the edit suite as he is in the c-suite.'
Mike's current focus is the category where all of this converges: AI-era experiential work, where the creative challenge is designing moments that make complex, unfamiliar ideas feel human, because this is the age when IRL experience is the only thing people trust.
With his insight into the neuroscience of experience and finger on the pulse of emerging tech, Mike can identify exactly what an audience wants to hear and what they need to hear, whether they're developers, medical experts, pharma sales teams, policymakers, business leaders, or everyday consumers.
With that range of fluency — technological, scientific, and experiential — Mike leads teams in creating events and environments that don't just leave people informed. They leave them different.
